About Laura

In 2018, I found a lovely border collie girl to join my family. I thought I was getting a hiking buddy. But it turned out Star's real passion was - and is - sheep herding!

Instead of hiking, Star and I practiced sheep herding and entered AKC herding competitions. I did not like sitting around idly between runs so I got involved with trial secretary work.

Now my pet has pet sheep and ducks of her own to practice herding at every opportunity. Star and I still compete in AKC herding on occasion and I like to help with trial secretary work for the events I enter. We also compete in other AKC events like scent work and rally.

In Fall 2021, Star finished her AKC herding championship! I am so proud of her. She has been a wonderful partner as we both learned the sport.

Next steps for us is to start entering AHBA and USBCHA competitions. We'll support just a few more AKC herding events and also continue to compete in AKC scent work and rally.

Star has had a big year earning over 7,000 points and many awards and titles at various competitions. We're looking forward to testing our skills at USBCHA events in the coming months.
